![]() Friday, January 20, 2006 In case you didn't know I love to read -- mainly personal development and business related titles -- but I also enjoy biographies -- particularly where the persons story is one that's filled with inspiration. The reason I tend to read mostly non-fiction is simply that I enjoy learning -- long ago I committed to being a life long learner. Hopefully this is a commitment you've made for yourself as well. Speaking of great biographies I just completed Jump In! by Mark Burnett -- in case you don't know who Mark Burnett is think reality TV -- as in Survivor, The Apprentice, The Contender, among others. He's the producer / creator of those shows. What can I say, I'm a sucker for a good success story! And Mark's book fits that perfectly. The interesting thing about people who have reached a certain level of success in their endeavors is that often we assume they were lucky, or else we don't give a lot of thought as to what they had to endure to get to where they are now. For example, just about everyone recognizes Mark Burnett's accomplishments, but few know that when he first came to America, he was a nanny -- yes, that's right, a nanny - Hey you do what you have to when you're getting started. From his gig as a nanny he went on to start a little business selling T-shirts on the beach. Along the way he got into promoting an adventure competition known as eco-challenge, which eventually led him to start the survivor series as well as his other well known reality TV programs. One of the key things that stuck out in reading this book was Mark's philosophy of "jumping in" -- which is something that I myself identify with greatly. All to often people end up planning themselves out of truly getting started on their dreams. They look for the perfect time, or just the right moment, when in fact in most cases if they'd have "jumped in" and given themselves the wiggle room to learn as they go they'd be much farther towards achieving their desired success journey. Do yourself a favor and take the time to read more success stories -- and while you're at it, you might as well start with Mark Burnett's Jump In! -- Here's to your success, Josh Hinds :-) ---- Visit Josh Hinds at www.GetMotivation.com posted by Josh Hinds | Permalink |
