Rich Dad, Poor Dad
By Robert Kiyosaki
Robert Kiyosaki
Robert Kiyosaki is an investor, businessman and best-selling author. His book, Rich Dad Poor Dad, reveals what the rich teach their kids about money that the poor and middle class do not.
"The main reason people struggle financially is because they spent years in school but learned nothing about money. The result is people learn to work for money...but never learn how to have money work for them," says Robert.
Born and raised in Hawaii, Robert is fourth-generation Japanese-American. He comes from a prominent family of educators. His father was the head of education for the State of Hawaii. After high school, Robert was educated in New York. Upon graduation, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps and went to Vietnam as an officer and a helicopter gunship pilot.
Returning from war, Robert went to work for the Xerox Corporation and in 1977 started a company that brought to market the first nylon and Velcro "surfer" wallets, which grew into a mega-million dollar worldwide product.
In 1985 Robert founded an international education company that taught business and investing to tens of thousands of students throughout the world. Retiring at the age of 47, Robert continued with his love of investing.
It was during his "retirement", he wrote Rich Dad Poor Dad, the #1 New York Times bestseller. Robert followed with Rich Dad's CASHFLOW Quadrant and Rich Dad's Guide to Investing - all 3 books have been on the top 10 best-seller lists simultaneously on The Wall Street
Journal, USA Today and The New York Times. In January 2001 Robert launched Rich Dad's Rich Kid Smart Kid.
Concerned about the growing gap between the "haves" and "have nots" Robert created the patented board game CASHFLOW® 101 to teach individuals the same financial strategies his Rich Dad spent years teaching him...the same financial strategies that allowed Robert to retire at the age of 47.
Although Robert's business is real estate, trading and building businesses, his true passion is teaching. He is a highly acclaimed speaker on financial education and his work has inspired audiences worldwide.
Robert has appeared on Oprah and other top national TV and radio shows. Robert has a profound message for those wanting to improve their financial lives. That message is: "With every dollar in your hand, you have the power to choose to be rich, poor or middle class."

Robert Kiyosaki Quotes ...
"We all have tremendous potential, and we all are blessed with gifts. Yet, the one thing that holds all of us back is some degree of self-doubt. It is not so much the lack of technical information that holds us back, but more the lack of self-confidence." -- Robert Kiyosaki
"Stop blaming me, thinking I'm the problem. If you think I'm the problem, then you have to change me. If you realize that you're the problem, then you can change yourself, learn something and grow wiser. Most people want everyone else in the world to change themselves. Let me tell you, it's easier to change yourself than everyone else." -- Robert Kiyosaki
"It's easier to stand on the sidelines, criticize, and say why you shouldn't do something. The sidelines are crowded. Get in the game." -- Robert Kiyosaki
"Whenever you feel 'short' or in 'need' of something, give what you want first and it will come back in buckets. That is true for money, a smile, love, friendship. I know it is often the last thing a person may want to do, but it has always worked for me. I just trust that the principle of reciprocity is true, and I give what I want." -- Robert Kiyosaki
"If you realize that you're the problem, then you can change yourself, learn something and grow wiser. Don't blame other people for your problems." -- Robert Kiyosaki
"Often, the more money you make the more money you spend; that's why more money doesn't make you rich - assets make you rich." -- Robert Kiyosaki
"Winners are not afraid of losing. But losers are. Failure is part of the process of success. People who avoid failure also avoid success." -- Robert Kiyosaki
"Rule #1: You must know the difference between an asset and a liability, and buy assets. If you want to be rich, this is all you need to know. It is rule number one. It is the only rule. This may sound absurdly simple, but most people have no idea how profound this rule is. Most people struggle financially because they do not know the difference between an asset and a liability. "Rich people acquire assets. The poor and middle class acquire liabilities that they think are assets," said rich dad." -- Robert Kiyosaki (excerpted from Rich Dad, Poor Dad)
