You are designed to have goals and to work towards their achievement — and by doing so make the world around you a better place.
Consider the following story of some of the first astronauts. Some of them, upon completing their mission would experience depression and other life difficulties. How could this be? Particularly from a group of people that anyone would rightly describe as super achievers. If these folks were susceptible to this what hope could there possibly be for the rest of us mere mortals?
It turns out that since they had literally been to the peak of personal accomplishment — yet because they had no goals when they came back, they experienced a feeling of nothing else to strive for. We can all identify with this to some degree, whether we’ve been to the moon or not. Interestingly the solution was fairly simple. It was decided that the astronauts would begin working on new endeavors which would continue after their space related work and require their attention beyond their completion of the space mission. That’s right, the solution all came down to having a goal and something great to aspire to ongoing. I believe this is also true for each of us. The world talks of “getting there†when in reality the journey — and what you become for having traveled it is far more important than the actual arrival in most cases.
Think about how you can apply the above ideas. If you’re experiencing listlessness or lack of purpose consider ways you can create a goal for your life. Friend, we really are designed to strive, stretch, and grow. We are meant to go beyond hoping and getting down to putting forth action on things. When we have a plan and are working to make it a reality we experience a greater sense of accomplishment in our daily lives. Don’t just take my word for it. Test it, and see what a positive impact doing so can have in your life.
Friend, GOD has a plan and purpose for your life. You were equipped with unique talents to fully live that purpose out. I hope you will spend time every day being intentional and take that to heart — looking for ways to fully live in that truth.
