![]() Tuesday, January 30, 2001 You may be closer than you realize - I think that above all else life is about our ability to keep on keeping on. The simple fact is that we can't ever be sure of how close we are towards our goals. I am sure that we have all heard tale of those who have quit on the one yard line, not realizing that success was within reaching distance... Here's hoping that you make it over the one yard line.Your friend in cyberspace, Josh Hinds :-) posted by Josh Hinds | Permalink Monday, January 15, 2001 If your like me, know doubt you have had a time happen where you had a super idea, but for whatever reason you let a month or so pass and the next thing you know your 'sure winner' was still no more than an idea. My friend it happens to us all. The important thing is that we take our important 'first step'... How's this accomplished you ask? Each day set yourself a step that you must take towards its completion. For example, say I tell myself that today I want to spend x amount of time researching my idea. In doing this I have taken an active step that will keep the idea fresh in my mind. Remember, goals are accomplished with daily (often times in tiny steps) steps! Even more important than daily steps is to try and give your goal a time frame. For example if I say, "ok Josh I want to be able to be at such and such a point by (pick your particular time frame) I am far more likely to achieve it than if I do so without giving myself a deadline (make certain your deadlines are realistic.. Be careful not to choose unrealistic time frames. Doing so could leave you feeling extremely discouraged). A bit about deadlines. We need to be careful that our self- imposed deadlines are realistic. I can think of nothing as discouraging as having chosen a deadline only to find that it wasn't reached (not because we didn't act, but rather that time simply would not allow for its achievement)... Then get busy and find out how to do it." Every time I hear it I am reminded of the many examples of folks with little more than an idea who ran with it all the way to great achievement... Did they have any idea the magnitude of what the dream would become? I think if we asked them personally at least 6 out of 10 would say they did not. Yet following that dream turned out bigger then they ever imagined. Colonel Sanders was in his retirement years when went out looking for a way to supplement his retirement. What he wound up with was the first true beginnings of the fast food industry. Steve Jobs (co-founder of Apple Computer) and Bill Gates (co-Founder of Microsoft) were both college students when they decided to take up and follow their dreams. I site the examples above of folks who took a dream and ran with it in a big way. Does this mean that I think that we're all guaranteed success? No I don't, but I do believe one thing without a doubt... If we don't give our dreams a shot we already know how far we will get... It is only when we allow ourselves to become absorbed by such problems that we allow them to stand in the way of our personal success. Remind yourself as often as it takes that today is a new day and you're going to make it as good as can be. Essentially what we're doing is reprogramming our subconscious minds to view things in a more positive light. May you find great personal satisfaction in your life... I am firm believer that each of us can condition our days by introducing positive actions. Unlike it's sister physical conditioning... Positive conditioning won't even leave you feeling all sweaty! So now the question is how do we do this.. Here are a few tips that I use and may work for you as well... 1) Make your vehicle a success classroom! Keep a healthy supply of positive books on tape handy. Anything you've wanted to learn can be done in the same time you'd normally be listening to the latest top 40 hits. 2) Keep a good book handy.. Again approach this from a standpoint that each time you dedicate to reading something positive you're actually building up anti-negatives if you will. 3) Be *sure* and keep a personal success journal! This will offer you the needed fuel to be able to look back and realize that you're making great gains.. Particularly at the time we might feel otherwise. I hope you've found these helpful... Your friend in cyberspace, Josh Hinds :-) posted by Josh Hinds | Permalink Thursday, January 04, 2001 Don't be afraid to give freely - If there's one thing that I have learned since doing business online it's the value that giving freely plays in creating one's success. Whether you're online or offline the value of word of mouth advertising is something that we simply can't ignore. I achieve this by giving lots of resources on my web site and offering my free newsletters. In turn people share the site and lists with their friends. Which builds the number of visitors I have. A similar approach you might consider taking is working on being viewed by your peers as someone who is willing to help another get ahead. When we can achieve this reputation we find that all kinds of opportunities come our way (not to mention it's quite rewarding personally)... Your friend in cyberspace, Josh Hinds :-) posted by Josh Hinds | Permalink Wednesday, January 03, 2001 We can't always put a timeline on our success - I've often considered it a shame that personal success doesn't adhere to a stricter timeline. If it did I am certain that there would be more folks finding it... Take heart though my friend! By keeping careful track of our goals as we achieve them, we can use our "little triumphs" to our advantage. It matters not if you track them in a journal or a notebook! The important thing is that we write them down! This provides us with needed fuel and re- energizes us during those times we might feel we're not making ample progress. Make today an incredible day!... Your friend in cyberspace, Josh Hinds :-) posted by Josh Hinds | Permalink Tuesday, January 02, 2001 Fear not if you don't get off to a blazing start!!! - There are those who would lead us to believe that if we don't meet with super fast success that we're some how not trying as hard as we can. I am here, NOW to debunk this way of thinking!... First off lets look at the type person who would have you believe this... Often these are folks that are not very forward thinking people themselves. If they were I can't help believe that they'd be looking towards helping you to understand that many great things take time to build. Things like careers, businesses.. Love, friendships. Sure the folks who move 90 to nothing might do well, but because it works for them doesn't mean you're a failure if that approach isn't your bag my friend :-) Life is filled with people who make use of the "hard sell" approach. Don't be ashamed if this is not what works for you. Many people that are truly successful in various areas of their life will tell you that Rome was not built in a day! The speed at which we travel is not near as important as being able to honestly say to ourselves at the end of the day.. I gave it my best... and I enjoyed the journey...
