![]() Friday, April 26, 2002 Your Success Is Just Beyond The Point Of Getting Started By Josh Hinds (c) 2002 "Most all our successes and achievements are proportionate to our willingness to give things a try, to push onward at those moments when we feel like we've got nothing left" -- Josh Hinds :-) Life is about trying - trying things when conventional wisdom might lead you to do otherwise. You have to believe without a doubt that nothing would be revealed to you without your having the ability to see the task through to completion. I'll readily admit that's a pretty darn bold statement to make isn't it? Sure it is. As bold as it is, this is precisely the attitude you've got to adopt if you want to meet with great success in your undertakings. I'd challenge you to study the story of anyone that's met with any moderate level of success. Upon doing so a pattern begins to emerge -- in some way, and at some point in the story you'll find that the person your reading about adopted this very attitude. Does that mean they didn't meet with challenges, or have those moments where they almost overwhelmed? I'm certain most did. The difference however was their ability to move past the fear of the unknown. To move past those feelings we all have - the one that try to convince of that we aren't capable of meeting with achievement. These people chose to move forward, often just past the point where others gave up just short of their intended goal. I am certainly not trying to say that life is all a bed of roses. As a matter of fact, I'd be blatant liar if I didn't tell you that I have met with moments where I found myself repeating things like "Can I make it, am I ever going to reach this goal, am I capable of meeting with success?"... Those don't exactly sound like the kinds of things that someone who makes his living from writing a personal development column and running a motivational web site would say does it? You wouldn't think so, but you see that's the reality of things -- life throws curve balls at us all. Personally, I don't think I'd be half as genuine if I tried to pass myself off as some kind of *super human being* that never gets discouraged. I can assure you that everyone has less then perfect days :-) However, while it is true I have my down times, I pride myself on my ability to combat such feelings and get myself back on track to a more positive outlook as quickly as I can. The good news is this is something that by simply being aware of you can implement it into your life as well with a minimal amount of effort. So, should you choose to accept this assignment, you should know that while it's not particularly difficult, it is an ongoing effort. It is something you might have to continue to remind yourself of. Initially you're likely to catch yourself wallowing in negativity far more often then you find yourself looking towards the more positive side of things. Take heart, the main thing to remember is that it's fine, just be sure to gently bring your mind back to a point where you realize that you have a choice at that very moment -- to see the good, or the negative in any given situation. Surely, at times things will appear so bad that it would appear there could be no good to come from it. Give it time, for through time things are often revealed that we simply could not see in them originally. While you set out to take your dreams from initial idea to reality, appreciate the part that a strong willingness to see it through plays, and be sure to enjoy the trip your life is taking -- keep clearly in mind what they say about the journey being as enjoyable as the achievement itself... And don't forget to share your achievements and successes with me as well :-) "If you are to succeed wildly in business, life, or love, you must become a master at making those you come into contact with "RAVING" fans" -- Josh Hinds :o) posted by Josh Hinds | Permalink Friday, April 12, 2002 There's A Goldmine In Those Pages... (c) 2002 A surefire way to succeed is to model what other successful people have done, and then take it a step further or adopt certain techniques and build on them when possible. There's an old saying that I think is right on. It say's "Success leaves clues". I've always enjoyed reading the biographies of achievers, innovators, and leaders, not so much for the literary value of the books as what I gain from learning about the person. Biographies can be chock-full of "success clues"! History, when studied reveals many shortcuts we can take on our personal journey of success. Plus it can help ensure that we don't make the same mistakes that others before us did. Imagine finding a blueprint of the very steps that past presidents used to get elected, CEO's of businesses used to reach their place in the company, or virtually anything you can imagine. These are exactly the kinds of things that are waiting for you in the pages of great biographies and books. I'll leave you with the this thought - readers are leaders... Some of them might be more debilitating then others. Even so there's almost always a way to work around them and end up finding a gratifying level of success in the given area. I believe the following example of a friend of mine does a fantastic job illustrating this. I've known my friend since grade school. We attended the same elementary school as a matter of fact. He was like most kids our age, he loved football and sports. As the years grew so did his love for game (particularly University Of Alabama Football). Nothing really out of the ordinary there, however, my friend is confined to a wheel chair. Therefore he didn't really have the opportunity to participate in organized sports in school. Even so, here's where it gets really interesting. Because he's so passionate about professional & collegiate sports he decided set goals towards attaining a degree in journalism. Which is exactly what he did, now he's in a position where he can work towards participating in the field that he's most interested in if he so chooses. While it's true the sport itself alluded him because of conditions beyond his control, he didn't allow it to stop there. The point of sharing this is not to say if he can do it then you and I can do it. I think that would be over simplifying it. You see, each of us has our own unique situations occurring in our lives. We have our own comfort zones that for the most part we allow to determine our level of achievement. Thus it does no good to compare one persons difficulties to another (except perhaps to gain inspiration from them). Rather the point is in realizing that no matter what our own situation may be we are just as capable of reaching a satisfying level of success as is anyone. No matter what we may find standing in our way. Often it's how we choose to work around our obstacles that makes all the difference in what we achieve in our lives. In the end things might not turn out exactly as we'd imagined, but more often then not with enough persistence things do work out, and in many cases better then we might have originally hoped for...
