Build Others And You'll Build Yourself In Return
By Josh Hinds
(c)

Build others and you'll build yourself at the same time - A while back I had the good fortune to see the truth in this statement first hand. I had been working and coaching with a person -- together we were exploring ways to increase the value of their website.

As we brainstormed what seemed like idea after idea a plan began to formulate that he agreed would work for them. I should note here that the person wasn't a paid client at the time. It was just someone I'd known for a bit and from what started into a general conversation we moved on into a brainstorming session.

A funny thing happened about a day or two later. I received an instant message out of the blue from a fellow who introduced himself and said that he'd talked with so and so and was interested in talking with me about how I could help him.

The result was a client that wanted to retain me for a brainstorming session. I've had a happy client ever since. There's no doubt in my mind this was a direct result of my willingness to freely help another person.

The moral of the story here is pretty simple. Help others to achieve what they want and before you know it the word will get out. Often in a BIG way. It's worth developing the reputation as a person who is genuinely out to help another.

We give freely of our time not because of what we get in return, yet it always does come back to benefit us in some way... Your friend in cyberspace, Josh Hinds

Are Your Dreams Aligned With Your Passions?
By Josh Hinds
(c) 2003

Making sure our goals are properly aligned with our passions only makes sense. If you have the wish to move up the corporate ladder, start your own business, or just about any other worthy goal you're going to make things a lot easier on yourself if you're working on things that get you personally excited and make you feel alive when you're working on them (i.e. following your passions).

We hear this a lot I know... But have you ever stopped to ask yourself why this is?

Hopefully this will help...

A simple rule of thumb is to do the things that you'd do if you weren't getting paid for them. The simple reality is most any level of lasting achievement takes effort. Often it means going above and beyond the call of duty. Foregoing something in return for the results your sure you'll reap later on.

Even if others might not see you as exerting quite as much effort as they are (I get this all the time since I "just sit at a computer all day and work from home"... Have you ever heard something similar?). Even so, you're putting forth effort.

I can tell you I can't imagine how much I'd dread getting up each and everyday if what I was doing wasn't aligned with something I also had a strong passion for. Believe me, it's a feeling worth exploring and implementing into your own life.

In summary, I believe that following our passion allows us to sit in a more natural path with regards to achieving our personal success. Why is that? Because instead of counting the hours till we get off and can work on other projects, we'll be more excited about the task at hand.

Which I believe is a lot more likely to equate to your having a feeling of leading a a more productive life. Wouldn't you agree? Not to mention, we're destined to have a whole lot more fun day to day (and I believe, in turn derive more lasting meaning in our lives)... Your friend in cyberspace, Josh Hinds :-)

Defining Success
By Josh Hinds
(C) All rights reserved

I'll be the first to admit that everyone has his or her own definition of success and what constitutes living a life with greatness. Success comes in so many shapes and sizes that it can often go unnoticed if you do not take the time to recognize the many facets where exists your life. With that said, I would like to offer up my short definition of success.

Success is the mother or father who sacrifices to make a better life for their family. It is the person who spends countless hours studying, and scrimping to pay the bills so they can have the honor of being the first person to graduate from college in their family.

Success and greatness is in the man or woman who against all the critics sets out and starts that small business that no one seemed to think would work. Success is the person who takes care of their aging parents (just as their parents did for them in their early life). Success is the person who lives their life as an example to others and actively shows those around them how to achieve more in their personal and professional lives.

Truly successful are those who do the things that make them happy. Success is the person who works two jobs so that he or she can make a better life for himself or herself. Success is the teacher who works hard and at the end of the day has made a positive impact on the lives of so many. In many cases far more then they may ever realize.

Success is taking time out throughout your busy day to understand that you are in fact an amazing person, and acknowledge that your contributions make this world a better place. True success is the entrepreneur who takes their idea and translates it into real jobs for others.

You see, success is so many things, and reaches so far into various areas of our lives. All to often we run through our days not realizing that we are already successful in our own right. While it is true we may not fit into a cookie cutter mold of what society labels successful people as having, make no mistake about it...

You are an achiever just the same. Starting today, take time to honor your many accomplishments -- all the while taking comfort in knowing that many more such accomplishments still await you. Remember this, greatness is part of who you are... Your friend in cyberspace, Josh Hinds
